At Shalfleet we house a mixture of styles of stabling to suit all horses. They are all well ventilated and sociable. From brick built, to wooden stabling. They are kept well disinfected and painted, with a good bedding of the finest shavings. We also have installed the Equilux lighting to provide a natural rhythm to the horses' body clock and allow them to get undisturbed rest, replicating outdoor natural lighting.
We have two Claydon covered horse walkers, allowing horses to exercise safely and comfortably in all weather conditions.
These walkers play a vital role in our daily training routine — whether used to warm up and loosen muscles before ridden work, provide controlled exercise during recovery from minor injuries, or simply give each horse a gentle leg stretch at evening stables.
Their versatility ensures every horse benefits from regular, balanced movement that supports fitness, flexibility, and wellbeing.
When we purchased Shalfleet Stables in 2020, we set out to make the land as functional and enjoyable as possible for our horses. One of our first projects was transforming an unused green area beside the yard into ten beautifully post-and-railed paddocks, providing safe and spacious turnout for horses to relax and unwind after exercise.
It’s a daily pleasure to watch them buck, roll, and graze contentedly, enjoying the freedom and fresh air that’s so important for their wellbeing. We also created a dedicated sand pit, which has quickly become a favourite spot — perfect for a good roll after work!
We are fortunate to have a dedicated pre-exercise collection area, where horses can gather as a string before heading out onto the heath.
This space allows them to settle and get into order, while giving our riders a calm environment to receive clear instructions for the upcoming exercise. It ensures every horse begins their work relaxed, focused, and ready to perform at their best.
Newmarket is the home of horseracing, and its world-class gallops are second to none. Thanks to the tireless work of The Jockey Club Estates, we have access to unrivalled training grounds, catering to every type of exercise our horses require.
From the iconic Warren Hill gallops to Al Bahathri, the Limekilns, Long Hill, Side Hill, Town Canter, the Water gallops, the Golden Mile, and many more, we are incredibly fortunate to train across such a variety of terrain — allowing each horse to develop strength, stamina, and confidence in preparation for peak performance.

When we moved into Shalfleet Stables, one of our first priorities was to create a welcoming space for owners and visitors.
We developed a spacious office complete with comfortable seating, a kitchen, and a bathroom, all designed for convenience and relaxation. Overlooking the yard, walkers, and paddocks, it provides a perfect vantage point. It serves as the hub of Sean Woods Racing.
